epic win: buffy vs. edward, "what? are you twelve?"

From Jonathan McIntosh of Rebellious Pixels comes this brilliantly edited pop culture piece. He says of his work:

In this remixed narrative Edward Cullen from the Twilight series meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s an example of transformative storytelling serving as a visual critique of Edward’s character and generally creepy behavior. Seen through Buffy’s eyes some of the more patriarchal gender roles and sexist Hollywood tropes embedded in the Twilight saga are exposed in hilarious ways.

A-to the-men. I will never, ever forgive Twilight author Stephanie Meyer for describing her whiney, helpless, and devotionally dependent protagonist (who she mistakenly refers to as a heroine -- not the same thing) to the greatest literary heroine readers have ever known, Elizabeth Bennett. If anything, the video above just proves how progressive Joss Whedon has been with his heroines, and how Twilight has set women back centuries.

fun with graphs

I hope to put up my thoughts on Battlestar's Series Finale (part one) and the series premiere of Kings eventually, but in the meantime, waste your time the way I have -- by reading hilarious charts. [Via Graph Jam.]

as if you need another reason to love jon hamm...

Admittedly, this starts off a little slow. Jon Hamm as Lex Luthor is a bit like Jon Hamm as Don Draper... BUT once he gets into his Superman rant, it's absolutely hilarious. What's he going to do with a $100B bailout? "I'm going to kill Superman. I'm Lex Luther. It's what I do."

snl: "the rock" obama

Dwayne Johnson does a great Barack Obama. Who knew?

And, because I never get tired of a sweet-voiced tattooed muscle man singing, here is Dwayne Johnson's monologue. He sings a song to prove how tough he is. Keep your eyes peeled for the scene involving chairs.

Warning: You should have a five foot radius around you while watching this, and you definitely shouldn't have any liquid or food in your mouth. It could be very dangerous.

craig ferguson's "lonely goatherd"

A little background information: My mother went into labor while watching The Sound of Music and refused to go to the hospital because "the Nazi part" hadn't come yet. So my mother waited. Until this three-hour movie was over. Before allowing me into the world. Well, lucky for us (so as to not become a site for bitterness), The Sound of Music became one of my favorite films (Captain von Trapp is amazing) and ABC shows the film every year on my birthday. I can't even think of a time when this film didn't show on my birthday. But there is one part -- one song -- that my mother cannot stand, and it happens to be the song that is the most fun to sing: "The Lonely Goatherd." Its playfulness is contagious, but my mother absolutely hates it. She walks out of the room. So mum, this video is for you.

In the video above, late night comedian Craig Ferguson's puppets do a rendition of "The Lonely Goatherd." Watch, listen, enjoy, and repeat. You'll need to repeat it because you will have missed it the first time from laughing so hard.

(Actually, this video is really for me. I think Craig Ferguson is one of the funniest improvisational comedians I've seen -- certainly on any late night program -- and I can never tell when his jokes are scripted, which is a sign that he does his job well. He's been starting off each episode with a puppet show, rather than a monologue, and the set-up should absolutely fail, but somehow it doesn't. What's impressive about the video above is that Ferguson knows the lyrics to the song -- really well -- to the point that, when the unicorn's mouth doesn't match the lyrics, he knows and the unicorn looks around confused. So what's better than Craig Ferguson, puppets, and The Sound of Music? Not much, not much.)

"how to irritate people" with john cleese

Pepperpots at the cinema.

My favorite lines:
"His hat is green!"
"It's a fire station! That's why the door was red!"
"Oooh. Well, I'd never."

Irritation by pretending to be considerate.

Airplane pilots having a bit of fun

Favorite lines:
"I spy with my little eye... something beginning with the letter S." "Sky?" "Mmm-hmm."
"The wings are NOT on fire."
"...but do not unfasten your safety belts."

The pepperpot wants the battleship...

Favorite lines:
"I'm 92! ... I'm 96! ... I'm 103! Today!"
"What do horses eat?" "Meat!" "No." "Other horses."
"Ca-ca-ca-bus!"
"I'm 943!"

And, because I'm in a generous mood, here's my favorite Monty Python sketch (from Flying Circus).

robot chicken: just the good parts

I know, I know. It's been a while... and yes, I have another video to show you. But in my defense, I just finished grading 100 term papers and am currently in the process of writing a 20-page paper on Vertigo (in all its representation/re-presentation goodness). And I will most likely disappear this weekend while I grade 100 final exams. (I'm estimating that my brain will explode by Friday evening.) BUT in the meantime, I want to share with you the funniest thing I've seen all week. The movie geek in me erupted in excitement. The following Robot Chicken clip shows "just the good parts" of movies and TV shows. The beginning of it makes fun of game shows building false intensity, but then it picks up to make fun of Philadelphia, Lawrence of Arabia, The Wizard of Oz, There Will Be Blood, King Kong, and -- my personal favorites -- The Shining and Battlestar Galactica. Seriously, The Shining spoof is amazing, and the BSG spoof includes a special cameo by Ron Moore (how did they even make that action figure?!?) who wears a "Let's Frak" t-shirt.

zombie wrapping

In honor of Black Friday (of which I am not participating), I bring you the best commercial of the holiday season (thus far). Here is Game Stop's new advertisement, and I have to say, I kind of want a zombie for Christmas now.

i heart spoilers and making fun of meg ryan movies

Yes, I've been absent for a week and a half, but this is the busiest time of the semester for me, and I'm only now just catching my breath. Tomorrow I plan to take on the huge task of giving a mid-season review of my favorite shows -- Chuck, House, The Mentalist, Bones, The Office, 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, Dexter, Desperate Housewives, Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother (yes, I do watch a lot of television) -- so you will have that to enjoy tomorrow. As for NOW, however, enjoy this absolutely delightful Youtube video of two guys spoiling the ends of movies. Most people know that I don't mind spoilers -- going to the movies is about the experience of show-telling, not about the end result of the narrative -- so I don't think spoilers actually "spoil" the emotional impact of a film (at least, they shouldn't). But if you don't mind spoilers or you've seen a lot of movies, I highly recommend watching this. My favorite part is, as is mentioned in the title, them making fun of Meg Ryan romances, but I also enjoyed all the ways Kevin Spacey dies in his movies. Very well structured.

Update: My friend Jessica has informed me of some incorrect information. In City of Angels, Meg Ryan dies -- not Nicolas Cage. Still, the segment's funny. (P.S. Nicolas Cage sucks.)

"they should be called the featles"

I'm still crazy busy with grading midterms and writing papers... so instead of a Chuck review (which might come later in the week), I bring some delightful Lego art (which sounds redundant, doesn't it -- isn't all Lego art delightful?). The images below are obviously recreations of Beatles album covers, but there are other covers -- like Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA and Nirvana's classic Nevermind -- that you can see here.

SNL: solid as barack, don draper's guide to picking up women

Some parts are funnier than others... but "Solid as Barack" and Biden's comedy sketch cracked me up. I don't think that making fun of variety hours will ever get old to me... Of course, you have to understand why variety hours are so lame to get this sketch.

Jon Hamm did such a good job at, well, playing Don Draper. "There was a man with bright shiny shoes... I saw him dancing... until the accident." "Oh, how mysterious!" My favorite part is Step 4: Blow people away every time you say anything. And this reminds me...

The season finale of MAD MEN is on TONIGHT on AMC at 10pm, 11pm, and 1am! It's going to be AMAZING!

nathan fillion is nailing your wife

Nailing Your Wife

From The Movie Blog:
James Gunn (writer and director of one of the most underrated films in the last 5 years “Slither”) is apparently putting together this little web series called “PG Porn”. It is so PERFECTLY done (ie feels exactly like a porn) that you can’t help but laugh every second. And here’s the catch… this episode stars Nathan Fillion and real porn actress Aria Giovanni.
For people who love everything about porn... except the sex.

obama-gea and the bsg-gop

Finally, the Daily Show gets back to being funny and clever. Obama as Pangea? Brilliant.

Update: Have you noticed how Tigh/McCain and Roslin/Palin share some physical characteristics? Well, it turns out the similarities don't stop there:
The parallels continue! McCain is a military man who spent time in a Vietnam prison camp, the character of Col. Tigh is a military man who spent time in a Cylon prison camp. Sarah Palin comes from a family of school teachers, the character of Laura Roslin was school teacher before becoming Secretary of Education (and then later President). -- Boston Craiglist poster

Being a dork is no easy feat. I know -- I make it look easy.
